Unless you choose to provide it, the Marketplace does not collect your identity, contact information, Social Security Number, or other similar data. Other limited information is collected automatically from site visitors who read, browse, and/or download content. This enables us to comprehend how the site is utilized and improve it accordingly.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) defines personally identifiable information (PII) as information that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, such as their name, Social Security Number, biometric records, etc. alone, or when combined with other personal or identifying information that is linked or linkable to a particular individual, such as date and place of birth, mother’s maiden name, etc.

The Marketplace collects personally identifiable information when you schedule an appointment, fill out an application for health care coverage, and use other tools on the HealthSherpa website (such as identity verification). This information is collected in order to provide the services intended by the Marketplace: to compare health insurance plans based on costs, benefits, and other important features; to determine eligibility for health coverage and cost-sharing reductions; to select a plan; and to enroll in coverage.
